l read somewhere that people getting married would get a blood test done before the wedding, something to do with their future children. l do not know if this still goes on. But what was the reason for doing so?
My mother is O pos and my father was B pos. l have B pos and my sister has O neg. We still do not know where the neg came from exactly. My husband does not know what his type is so we do not know our son is type either. l only know mine as l donate blood and found out that way.
When my sister-in-law was pregnant with her son she had to have the shots because she has negative rh and her son has pos rh, this time she has not had to have the shots, l can not remember in which trimester she started with them last time.
l had only heard of the blood tests before marriage and l assumed they were only being done in the US as l had never heard of it happening around here in Ontario. l just never knew what the blood tests were for and how they worked. l do understand blood donation stuff as l started donating as soon as l turned 18. So no l was not confused by it. But thank you for explaining it.
My grandmother is o pos turned o neg after she had her children, none of us understand that one yet. My grandfather was A l believe but l do not know the rh factor. Really my son could be any type just from that l guess. My husband can not donate because of a medication he has to take so we do not know his type and we have no reason to find out Gabe is yet, that is until goddess forbid he ever needs a transfusion.

Do blood types really matter anymore

yes, of course it does, because of the Rh- factor. My sister in law has to have special shots when she is pregnant.

Do blood types really matter anymore

they used to do the blood test to mainly check for certain STD's.

Do blood types really matter anymore

Pre-marital blood tests had nothing to do with blood type, they were checking for diseases, most notably syphilis. Only a handful of states still require them.

Its a big deal because u & ur husband having different blood types could cause the momma to miscarry but their is a shot now called RHO GAM & now the mommy gets the shot so the developing baby wont be harmed. I learned this in my human anatomy & physiology class. O blood is the universal it can donate to anyone but it can only except other o blood. A blood can take from a blood & o blood. B blood can take from be blood & o blood. AB blood can only take from AB blood & o blood. They cannot be mixed & take only a blood or b blood which is what may have been happening to u with u & ur husbands blood types.Hope i didnt confuse you!

i believe they did blood tests back in the day to make sure the bride and groom were not related. it may also have something to do with the possibility of an rh negative mother forming antibodies to an rh positive baby.

If a woman is negative and her husband positive then there can be complications for the second baby in the rare circumstance that some of the baby is blood mixes with the mothers (and the baby is positive too).

The OB will type a woman at her first appointment. There is an injection that you get if you are negative to protect you / the baby.

I believe before marriage the blood test is for STDs though.

Well both my parents r O+ & I am O- & it matters with me b/c I have to get injections during my pregnancies & after the baby is born to keep the next pregnancy from resulting in miscarriage. However, I recently had a miscarriage & had to have one then too to keep my blood from mixing with the baby is blood & building antibodies to + blood types. But as far as couples having blood test b/f having kids it is not to find out blood types but to check for certain diseases that they may carry genes for or that they could pass on to future kids.

its not required

I dont really remember the reason for the blood tests. I know I didnt have to have one when I got married 6 years ago. And about the blood-not sure about that either. Hubby has B+, I have A-, daughter got O- (I think) it could be O+, I just remember that I had the shot because of being negative and she didnt need the shot when she was born, but for sure she is an O.

i know that the only use of blood type is for donating blood
